FAQs

Q: At what age should I sit down with my children to discuss the dangers of drugs?

Answer:

It’s never too early to share how you feel about drugs/alcohol and what your expectations are in terms of zero use tolerance by your children. A study showed that 74% of 4th graders wished their parents would speak with them about drugs.

Q: At what age should I begin randomly drug testing my child?

Answer:

Every family situation is different. Some children are experimenting with drugs as young as 8 and 9 years old. We suggest that a program of random drug testing is implemented by the age of 12 or 13 at the latest.  The average starting age for drug use is 13 1/2 so it’s better to start testing early rather than late.  Parents find out about their child using drugs 2 years after they started on average.

Q: What should I do if my child tests positive for drugs or alcohol?

Answer:

First of all, stay calm. You are in control and now have the proof that your child is using. Should your child need counseling or treatment, we have the resources to help you take the next steps.  You can confirm that it is indeed positive through a laboratory test or retest it with another instant test if they deny use.  If they admit to using,  have a calm talk and determine if professional help is needed.  Our Parent Drug Program Manual teaches you how to respond to a positive test, look at pages 9 and 20. Not everyone needs professional help right away so do your homework first.

Q: Is there a way to get a sample without my child’s knowledge?

Answer:

Some children may refuse to comply with taking a drug test. We address this issue in our program manual. As a last resort, we do offer parents a method to test their child without the child’s knowledge in Parent Drug Program Manual on pages 14 and 25. In the work world, failure to comply with testing is deemed the same as a “Positive” result. Whether there is a behavior problem or they’re hiding a drug problem, chances are it’s time for more action.

Q: In a multi-drug test, how will I know which drug tests positive?

Answer:

Each panel shows the positive or negative result for a particular drug or drug category. So you know at a glance which drug has a positive result.

Q: What are the cut-off levels for drugs in your tests?

Answer:

Our FDA approved tests have the following SAMHSA industry-standard cutoff levels:

DRUG NAME SYMBOL Nanograms/ml
Marijuana THC 50 ng/ml
Cocaine COC 300 ng/ml
Phencyclidine PCP 25 ng/ml
Opiates OPI 2000 ng/ml
Morphine MOP 300 ng/ml
Amphetamines AMP 1000ng/ml
Methamphetamines mAMP 1000 ng/ml
Barbiturates BAR 300 ng/ml
Benzodiazepines BZO 300 ng/ml
Methadone MTD 300 ng/ml
Tricyclic Antidepressants TCA 30 ng/ml
Buprenorphine BUP  10ng/ml
Ecstacy MDMA 500ng/ml
Propoxyphene PPX 300ng/ml
Oxycodone OXY 100ng/ml

Q: What are the drug detection times in the body?

Answer:

Drug detection times, or the amount of time the drug remains in the body, varies from drug to drug when using a urine test.  It usually takes a few hours after drug use for drugs to be detected in the urine.  Many factors determine how long a particular drug can be detected in a person, including that person’s age, weight, sex, metabolic rate, overall health & amount of drug consumed over what period of time.  Drug metabolite levels can vary in the same individual depending on when the test is done.   The first urination of the day will yield the highest concentrations of drug metabolites. Testing urine at other times of the day will yield differing results since the concentration of urine itself changes throughout the day. Because of these variations in urine concentration, positive test results can occur following a negative test result, although there was no additional drug use. Many people try to avoid a positive test result by “watering up,” or drinking large amounts of fluids to dilute their urine.

The chart below shows drug detection times for urine based testing.  Saliva based tests detect drug use for 14 to 48 hours for most drugs being tested.  The standard Hair test detects drug use for about the past 90 days for each drug being tested. A Nail test detects 3 to 6 months.

DRUG CATEGORY DRUG DETECTION TIMES (DAYS)
Amphetamines (AMP) 2-6 Days
Barbituates (BAR) 3-8 Days
Benzodiazepines (BZO) 2-14 Days
Cocaine (COC) 2-5 Days
Marijuana (THC) 14-40 Days
Metamphetamines (mAMP) 2-6 Days
Methadone (MTD) 2-8 Days
Opiates (OPI & MOP) 2- 5 Days
Oxycodone (OXY) 2-5 Days
Phencyclidine (PCP) 3-8 Days
Tricyclics (TCA) 10 Days
Propoxyphene (PPX) 2-3 Days
Buprenorphine (Suboxone) (BUP) 2-3 Days
Ecstacy  (MDMA) 5 To 7 Days

Q: Will substances used regularly like vitamins, penicillin, aspirin and caffeine affect the results in any way?

Answer:

No – because our rapid drug tests react to drugs and drug metabolites, not to these substances which have a different chemical structure.

Q: If a drug test shows positive, can it be proved how long ago the drug was taken?

Answer:

Saliva, urine and hair tests only show a positive or negative result, not how long ago a drug has been taken.  You will know the drug was taken within the average time range for the type of drug used based on which type of test was used.

Q: Do you think someone could test positive for marijuana (THC) from exposure to second-hand smoke?

Answer:

There is almost no chance.  The urine concentration of drug metabolite, if any, should be below the cut-off level.  You would need to be in a very small room with poor ventilation and thick smoke for hours to have a chance of it being the cause of a positive result.  It rarely causes a positive result and if it did, would that really be any better than your teen smoking?  They would have been in a heavy drug use area and likely inhaled enough second hand smoke to get high.

Q: Can one test be used for all the possible drugs of abuse?

Answer:

No, it cannot. We do offer multi-drug tests – up to 12 drugs can be tested at one time with urine and up to 17 with hair and nail testing.

Q: Is drug testing at home really that simple?

Answer:

Yes, it is. All it takes is a few minutes with our instant urine and saliva drug testing products.  Hair samples take longer because they need to be mailed to the lab. Done properly, testing can build trust in the relationship and deter your teen from using drugs.  Your teen gets a great excuse to say no, “I can’t, my parents test me.”

Q: What do you mean by an instant drug test?

Answer:

An instant drug test is an easy to use diagnostic test that very quickly gives you the results (5 minutes or less) that show whether or not there is the presence of a specific drug in the body.  Also known as a “rapid” test. Available for urine and saliva testing.

Q: Why should I use an instant drug test?

Answer:

An instant drug test is perfect to ensure privacy, saves money and can help deter drug use.  This is very useful in a variety of situations, not just at home.  Schools, place of work, pre-employment, after accidents, random drug testing, etc. all benefit from instant drug testing products.

Q: Which drugs can be found with your tests?

Answer:

Our tests can be used to determine the presence of the following drugs of abuse:  A 6 panel test would test for 6 specific types and a 12 panel would test for 12 types.

  • Amphetamines (AMP)
  • Barbiturates (BAR)
  • Benzodiazepines (BZO)
  • Buprenorphine(BUP)
  • Cocaine (COC)
  • Ecstacy (MDMA)
  • Marijuana (THC)
  • Methamphetamines (mAMP)
  • Methadone (MTD)
  • Morphine (MOP)
  • Phencyclidine (PCP)
  • Propoxyphene (PPX)
  • Opiates (OPI)
  • Oxycodone (OXY)
  • Trycyclic Antidepressants (TCA)
  • K2/Spice

Q: How do your instant drug tests work?

Answer:

Instant drug tests detect the presence of drug metabolites in saliva & urine in just minutes. When a detection strip is wetted with a saliva or urine specimen, the specimen reacts with the reagents and antigens on the strip and produces a color reading so you can easily interpret a positive or negative result.

Q: What is the difference between a Dip Card Test and an All-In-One Cup Test?

Answer:

The Dip Card is dipped into a urine specimen to obtain results. A cup is a convenient method of testing where the specimen is collected in the cup and tested there as well. There is less handling of the specimen.

Q: How accurate are your drug-testing products?

Answer:

Our products are reliable. Our tests are United States FDA-cleared (unless stated otherwise). Laboratory testing has revealed that they are about 98% accurate. However, it is advisable to get results confirmed by a laboratory especially if your teen disputes the results.  Many times they will admit to using once they realize you are serious about getting the sample to the lab.

Q: Is there a minimum order that I must place?

Answer:

Yes, our minimum order is $35 and we only charge $8 shipping for any order (Continental U.S. only).   Testing only once for drugs doesn’t help much.  The value in repeated random drug testing is that… IT WORKS!  Our minimum order helps support parents as a reminder of the importance in repeat random testing.  If you are going to drug test, why not do it right?  Our products have a long shelf life so you can order them well in advance. Most parents come to our office and pick up the tests.

Q: What is the shelf life of your drug testing products?

Answer:

The rapid drug test FDA-cleared products have a shelf life of at least 18 months from their manufacturing date. The expiration date is on every individual pack. Manufactures recommend not use them beyond this date because accuracy of results will eventually diminish.

Q: Do you accept payment by credit card?

Answer:

Yes, we take all major Credit Cards by phone.

Q: What should I do if I tear open a packet with the test inside and I’m not ready to do the test?

Answer

It’s recommended you discard the test since the ingredients in the product react with moisture. This is why every product comes packed with a moisture-absorbent pack. Once the pack has been opened, you should use the test or throw it away.
